Can dogs eat flax seeds?

Yes, dogs can eat flax seeds in moderation, and they can provide some health benefits. Flax seeds are a rich source of omega-3 fatty acids, fiber, and lignans, which can contribute to a dog's overall well-being.

BUT Whole flax seeds may pass through a dog's digestive system undigested, so it's best to grind them before feeding them to your dog or buy the ground ones. Ground seeds are more accessible and ensure better absorption, I add them to many of doggy treats that you can find in the shop.

  • Omega-3 Fatty Acids

Flax seeds are an excellent plant-based source of omega-3 fatty acids, which can support skin and coat health, reduce inflammation, and promote overall cardiovascular health in dogs.

  • Fiber

They are high in dietary fiber, which can aid in digestion, regulate bowel movements, and support gastrointestinal health in dogs.

  • Lignans

Flax seeds contain lignans, which are phytoestrogens that may have antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties.
